David Gedert is a small business owner, community advocate, and candidate for U.S. Congress, representing Ohio’s 9th Congressional District. A Royal Oak and Toledo native, Gedert rose from orphanhood and years of hardship to national recognition as the runner-up on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race (Season 15).
Known to many as the drag performer Sugar Vermonte, Gedert brings an outsider’s perspective to politics, shaped by real-world experience rather than career government. He is a strong advocate for small businesses, seniors, students with special needs, and working families, and believes government should protect individual freedom while staying out of people’s everyday lives.
Gedert is running for Congress to end corruption, restore accountability, and empower the people of Ohio’s 9th District—returning power to the communities it was meant to serve.
